The sun, once sitting so high in the sky, had dipped low and taken on a reddish hue.

I’d enjoyed the day to the fullest! I’d splashed around in the sea with Cain, swam my heart out, and even used a water-walk spell to lounge around lazily, sunbathing right on top of the water.

At the beach house, I’d devoured a shaved ice that went straight to my head with a painful sting, and I tried a bit of something called “surfing.” Though I kept falling down at first, I managed to maintain some semblance of balance by my last attempt.

It had been such a fulfilling day, I just had to let out a satisfied sigh. Time really does fly when you’re having fun.

Presently, Cain had gone to get drinks for the both of us. I gratefully allowed myself to be spoiled by his kindness as I sat on the beach, gazing absentmindedly out at the sea.

The crimson sun cast a faint glow over the sky and the sea. A once vibrant blue world transformed into one of amber hues. Though beautiful, the darkening sea was dangerous, and people had begun to leave the water. The angels on lifeguard duty called out warnings. What was once a crowded beach was now desolate. The time for fun was over; the veil of night was fast descending.

“Hey there, pretty miss. All alone?”

Then came a flirtatious voice that took me straight out of my sentimental reverie. Turning towards it, I saw five men approaching me.

“How about you hang out with us?”

“You might not know, missy, but this is when the real fun begins.”

“We’ve got a room booked at the hotel. A real huge one. How about you come join us?”

They were hitting on me. In a very boorish way too.

The men had tattoos on their bodies and piercings on their noses. Judging people by appearances was a bad thing—I know—but they certainly looked very conspicuously delinquent-like.

“No thank you... I’m here with a fine gentleman today.”

“No worries! Forget about that guy and come have some fun!”

“Damn, what a catch! Heh heh, tonight’s gonna be good.”

Their sleazy smiles grew as they moved closer. I could sense from their demeanor that they had no intention of letting their “prey” escape. Even when I declined, they persisted, undeterred. To them, I must have seemed like an easy mark.

“Please stop. I’ll call the police.”

“Yeah, nah. You’re gonna come with us... Right?!”

One of the men tried to pull me in by the shoulder, but I dodged him with ease.

“Huh?”

The man gave me a puzzled look as he barely kept himself from stumbling forward.

“Hey now, missy, don’t run away...”

This time, he reached for my arm. I brushed aside his grab with my elbow, causing the delinquent to lose balance and almost fall over.

“You’re being very persistent...”

“What’s with this chick?”

“C’mon now, missy. We just want to have a good time.

“If you keep resisting, you’ll leave us with no choice but to be a bit forceful.”

The five delinquents surrounded me. Honestly, handling thugs like these would be a piece of cake.
